Matches, Board Members, Staff, & Friends of the Agency
Congratulations to our 2009 Honorees!
Big Sister of the Year Jeanne Albertson & her Little Sister Kailey have been matched 3 ½ years. Christine, Kailey’s grandma, describes Jeanne as a “jewel” & a wonderful friend to Kailey who shares a variety of adventures with her. Kailey says “She is the best Big Sister she could have ever asked for” & she wants to stay matched forever; Jeanne feels the same.
BBBS selected Jeanne as a 2009 Big Sister of the Year because she is the embodiment of a perfect Big. She’s a fun, consistent friend who has exposed Kailey to many wonderful & varied experiences over the years from attending jazz concerts & ballets, camping & hiking in Lassen, going to the beach, playing in the garden, making cookies, & picking blueberries.
Big Brother Scott Harris has been awarded the title of 2009 Big Brother of the Year because of the dedication & sincere care he has offered his Little Brother Christopher. Matched in June 2007, their 2-year friendship has become one of genuine respect & full of fun. They can be seen walking the dogs, at the movies or skate-park, playing laser tag or at the park throwing the Frisbee. Christopher’s mum, Trenee states that Scott is “everything they’d hoped for in a Big Brother”. Christopher is all smiles while stating that Scott “will always be my Big Brother. I can talk to him about anything...he is part of my family now…& the best brother in the whole wide world.”
Little Brother Andrew W & Big Brother Chris Dosch, one of our most creative & adventurous matches, are recognized this year as 2009 Match of the Year. Since their first match outing a year ago in October, this pair have been spotted all over Humboldt County—even in the air!
Big Brother Chris surprised Andrew with a flight in a pal’s small plane in which Andrew himself got to pilot at one point. Their other expeditions have included hikes, cycling, learning bike repair, watching the Kinetic Sculpture race, & checking out HSU to explore future educational & career options. Their diverse list of activities & willingness to try new things together have created a friendship built on trust & fabulous fun. Keep your eyes open for these two on their next adventure!
Special Recognition also went out to: Big Brother & Board Member Kent Wrede and
Big Sister & Board Member Rose Urich
