A few hours a month could make
all the difference to a child. |
 |

"My Big Sister is like my super cool aunt."
"My Big Brother is great to be around and brings out the best in me."
Mentoring matches get together 8-12 hours a month, and talk on the phone often. It's up to each match to decide when to get together, and what they want to do. Matches enjoy riding bikes, hiking, collecting seashells at the beach, baking cookies, running in marathons, playing video games, skateboarding, knitting and much more. Every match is supervised by a professional case manager at our agency. Families can count on the case manager to make sure the match is safe and healthy, connect them to community resources, be a good listener, and resolve conflicts.
Mentoring makes a difference for kids who:
are between the ages of 6 and 16,
don't have regular contact with one or both parents OR
are facing special challenges,
and are excited and interested about participating in the program.
Mentoring is not a quick fix. It is a long-term investment in helping a child to reach his or her potential. If we determine that we can not serve your child, we will refer you to other resources. We don't always have enough qualified mentors for every child who wants one. We do our best to find Bigs for all families who contact us, but children can wait up to a year for a match.
We have matches from Trinidad to Rio Dell along the coast. Please call if you are elsewhere in Humboldt County!
If you would like to enroll your child in our program, please contact our office.
