Traditional Bigs Be A Mentor "BIG!" » 'Big' Programs » Traditional Bigs
Be a Friend. Be a Mentor. Just be There.
"My Big Brother is great to be around and brings out the best in me."
"My Big Sister is fun and understanding and someone to talk to."
"I'm so lucky to be a part of these kids' lives."
Mentoring matches get together 8-12 hours a month and talk on the phone often. It's up to each match to decide when to get together and what they want to do. Matches enjoy riding bikes, hiking, collecting seashells at the beach, baking cookies, running in marathons, playing video games, skateboarding, knitting and much more. Every match is supervised by a Match Support Specialist at our agency. Volunteers can count on the case managers for positive feedback, activity ideas, conflict resolution, brainstorming, and listening ears.
Succesful mentoring is pretty simple:
Be available,
Show you care,
Have fun.
The Community-Based Program is great for volunteers who:
are patient, open-minded and active,
like spending time with kids and teens,
have a car they can use to get around,
and have skills and hobbies they want to share with a child.
We accept volunteer applications and create matches year-round. Volunteers must be 18 or older to apply and pass a criminal background check.
We have matches from Trinidad to Rio Dell along the coast. Please call if you are elsewhere in Humboldt County.
