Change a life . . . one hour at a time.

"I've seen my Little Sister break out of her shell and become more confident and outspoken."

"She gets so excited for Wednesday because that is the day her Big Sister comes."

School-based matches meet once a week for one hour at a time during the child's After School Program. School-based matches stay on the school campus and take advantage of the playground, athletic equipment, games and arts and crafts supplies.

The School-Based Program is great for volunteers who:
are college or high school students,
use the bus or a bike to get around,
or are more comfortable meeting in a place where there are other adults around.

High School students  mentor because they can have fun playing games with kids, be a positive role model, use the experience on a resume or college application and make a new friend.

Encourage co-workers, fellow church members, and people in your service group to volunteer together. Contact our office to schedule a group meeting.

We accept volunteer applications year round for matches that begin in October or November and meet for one school-year.

The following schools participated in the School Based Program last year:

  • Arcata Elementary School
  • Lincoln Elementary School
  • South Fortuna Elementary
  • Sunny Brae Middle School
